Monika
Monika was born is Legnica,Poland. Her family moved to Rome when
she was ten years old. The change was dramatic but her roots and visual remembrances
always remained in Poland, In Rome she was surrounded by an artist's cultural
and historic compass. This was the beginning of a truly unique expression of
her life, art and homeland. What is known now as "Monika".
Monika always stresses the importance of grounding in drawing. Her textural
still scapes are archival and primordial. They not only reflect her subject
matter but transcend nature to its essence in feeling. Monika's paintings
originate in the very ancient technique known as encaustic or "with heat".
Monika always loved to draw and paint, even though her parents cautioned her
that making a living as an artist was difficult. With no outside training,
Monika's talent has taken the form of "visual texture" on canvas.
Her layered earthen textures provide a background tapestry to her distinctive
red poppies. This has become her signature. She enjoys an ever growing
following of private and corporate collectors.
